Thank you Dr. Taunton for the knees of a thirty year old! A great experience!

My wife was having foot surgery at Harris Southlake and she said I should ask her nurses if they had a recommendation for a knee surgeon. Both nurses quickly and quite vocally echoed, "Dr. Taunton"! I had been going to a different practice for over 10 years (no solutions other than shots) and had been bone-on-bone for over 15 years, amassing numerous bone spurs! Yes, fifteen years! I had learned to live with the pain, but it was interfering with my sleep and any cardio exercise so we made an appointment last September. After Xray's and examination, Dr. Taunton said I definitely needed both knees done! I stated it was important to me to have "one" recovery period so I was willing to work hard in recovery and was happy that he was willing to do both in the same hospital visit. I was also very bow-legged from rickets as a baby and Dr. Taunton said he could take some of that out during surgery and that I might even be a bit taller post-surgery; turns out, he was right!!
The surgeries were done on 10/31 and 11/2/2022, and Dr. Taunton and his staff are legendary in my mind. The attention and treatment they gave me before, during and after was quite unexpected. I really can't imagine being cared for any better. During my appointment, I had shared with Dr. Taunton that my wife and I enjoyed remodeling houses and that I was looking forward to being able to get back on my knees with less pain. Dr. Taunton was glad I mentioned that as he said if I reminded him, that he would alter the incisions around the kneecap; who would have thought of that! I had also been a college baseball player and that I would work hard to regain my flexibility and he cautioned me to just "follow the program"! Well, needless to say, I did work hard with the home therapy folks and I can't say that anyone else's results would be similar to mine, but after 90 days, Dr. Taunton's PA told me I was doing so well that he didn't know what outside PT could do for me!
I continued to work on the exercises given me and even amended those exercises with exercise bands and at my recent 6 month appointment with Dr. Taunton, he was very, very pleased with my progress, so for me there were two components to my success... #1 and most important - a great, great surgeon and #2 (for me) a determination to follow the recovery and not slack off. I went from 100-110 degrees (with pain to bend that much) to 140+ degrees and I can even get back into a catcher's crouch! Like I said, than you Dr. Taunton for giving me the "bone spur" free and flexible knees of a 30 year old! I would do it again in a heartbeat if needed! Easiest 5 star rating I've even given!! Thank you again!
